Se ha utilizado como t\u00f3nico nervioso, sedante suave y relajante muscular, lo que lo ha convertido en una opci\u00f3n popular para aliviar el estr\u00e9s, la ansiedad y el insomnio. Su funci\u00f3n carminativa ayuda a reducir el efecto de la formaci\u00f3n de gases promoviendo una digesti\u00f3n adecuada, alivia la sintomatolog\u00eda del resfriado, la gripe y dem\u00e1s afecciones respiratorias, posee propiedades antivirales, calma la tos y alivia la congesti\u00f3n nasal.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">El investigador Sim\u00f3n y otros, manifiestan que el toronjil por sus propiedades carminativas ha sido utilizado en diversas preparaciones arom\u00e1ticas junto a otras especies, como estimulante digestivo, presenta actividad antibacteriana y sedativa debido a su \u00a0aceite esencial, as\u00ed como actividad su antiviral de la fracci\u00f3n poli fen\u00f3lica e indicada en el tratamiento de espasmos gastrointestinales<sup>1<\/sup><\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Asi miso el Centro de investigaciones de desarrollo de medicamentos, menciona que, en Cuba, el grupo de Control Biol\u00f3gico del Centro de Investigaciones de Desarrollo de Medicamentos (CIDEM) ha demostrado un efecto protector en el est\u00f3mago de ratas experimentales a partir del extracto fluido de\u00a0<em>M. officinalis,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>donde se disminuyeron significativamente el n\u00famero e intensidad de lesiones\u00b2<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Del mismo modo, seg\u00fan psicoogiasymente.com\u00b3, El toronjil posee una serie de propiedades beneficiosas para la salud y para el tratamiento de ciertas molestias, las cuales proceden de su composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica (es rico en eugenol, cariofileno o germacreno adem\u00e1s de citronela.
